Alimony / Spousal Support

Alimony / Spousal Support is a court-ordered amount that one spouse pays the other to financially assist with the spouse's needs. Alimony or spousal support may be in different forms, e.g., temporary, permanent, lump sum or rehabilitative. Florida courts determine alimony based on a variety of factors, including need and ability to pay, length of marriage, standard of living during the marriage, and several others.

Court-ordered alimony may also be modified, terminated or reduced after a final order based on a change of circumstances, including retirement of the paying spouse or cohabitation of the receiving spouse with another person and/or being in a supportive relationship with another person. Beth M. Terry, Esquire, is very familiar with the various forms of alimony and the factors considered by the courts in determining the entitlement, amount, and/or type applicable in your case, as well as for any type of modification.
