Alimony

Alimony, or spousal support, is awarded following a divorce to limit any unfair economic effects to either party. Finances were most likely arranged with the two spouses working as a team, such as one taking a lower earning job to ensure time with family, child care, or support the higher-wage earning spouse.

After separation a spouse may need time to be able to support himself or herself at or near the standard of living.   Many factors go into establishing a fair alimony award between a divorced couple including:

-the basic needs of the receiving spouse

-standard of living during the marriage

-length of time for spouse to develop skills to become financially independent

-age, mental and physical condition of each party

-length of marriage

-financial resources and the ability of the payer spouse to be able to may support payments and still support themselves

The law office of Beth M. Terry, P.A., provides vigorous representation in alimony matters for both those receiving support payments and those making support payments. We work closely with our clients, addressing their concerns and striving to achieve favorable legal outcomes.

Whether you will be receiving spousal support or making support payments, you want to feel confident that the amount was determined fairly and in your best interests.
